School Professor Elected President of International Engineering Body
Professor Roger Falconer, Leader of the Institute of Environment and Sustainability, has been elected President of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) by members of the society.
The appointment, which was announced at the 34th IAHR World Congress in Brisbane, Australia, honours Professor Falconer as the first ever UK President since the formation of the Institution.IAHR is one of the oldest and most prestigious specialist engineering societies. Established in 1935, IAHR encourages and promotes both research and its application, and by so doing strives to contribute to sustainable development, the optimisation of world water resources management and industrial flow processes. The organisation is actively involved with international programmes such as UNESCO, WMO and ICSU, and organises working groups, congresses, conferences, workshops and courses, amongst other initiatives.
Professor Karen Holford, Director of the School of Engineering, welcomed the news. “This is a considerable and richly-deserved honour, and we at the School wish Roger every success in this high profile role.”
